Kathryn Montgomery, DO

Board-Certified Psychiatrist

Education & Training

I earned my medical degree from Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine. I then completed my adult psychiatry residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where I served as chief resident and developed a strong foundation in the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric conditions across the lifespan. Wanting to further specialize in the care of children and adolescents, I went on to complete fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Throughout my training, I cared for children, adolescents, and adults across a variety of settings, including outpatient clinics, hospitals, emergency departments, schools, and specialized community programs.

Treatment Philosophy

I was drawn to child and adolescent psychiatry because of the opportunity to intervene early and partner with families and schools during critical periods of development. I work closely with patients and families to develop treatment plans that reflect their goals and values and, when appropriate, incorporate information from schools, including report cards, IEPs, 504 plans, teacher feedback, and educational evaluations. My goal is to help young people better understand themselves, build confidence, navigate challenges, and feel hopeful about the future.

Medication Management

My approach to medication management is individualized and emphasizes thoughtful prescribing and deprescribing with consideration of many factors that influence emotional and behavioral health. I view medication as one component of a comprehensive treatment plan, which may also include psychotherapy, parent guidance, and other evidence-based interventions when appropriate.

Beyond the Office

Originally from Gloucester County, New Jersey, just outside of Philadelphia, I now live in Sparta with my husband, three daughters, and our rescue dog. When I'm not working, you can often find me spending time by Lake Mohawk, cheering on my daughters at their games, or keeping up with Philly sports.
