  • The evaluation process is designed to develop a thorough understanding of your child's strengths, challenges, symptoms, and overall functioning. Evaluations are typically completed over two appointments and may include time with the child or adolescent individually, parents or caregivers individually, and the family together, depending on the child's age and clinical needs.

    The evaluation includes a comprehensive review of:

    • Current concerns and symptoms

    • Medical and developmental history

    • Psychiatric history and prior treatment

    • Family mental health history

    • Academic performance and educational supports

    • Social, emotional, and behavioral functioning

    • Strengths, interests, and protective factors

    When available, relevant records such as psychological testing, school evaluations, report cards, IEPs, 504 Plans, and prior treatment records may also be reviewed.

    Following the evaluation, diagnostic impressions, recommendations, and a personalized treatment plan will be discussed. Treatment recommendations may include medication management, psychotherapy, parent guidance, school-based supports, care coordination, or other evidence-based interventions as appropriate.

  • The evaluation process is designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of your current concerns, symptoms, strengths, and goals. Evaluations may be completed in one or two appointments, depending on clinical complexity and individual needs.

    The evaluation includes a detailed review of:

    • Current symptoms and concerns

    • Medical and psychiatric history

    • Previous treatment experiences

    • Family mental health history

    • Academic, occupational, and social functioning

    • Relationships, life stressors, and developmental factors

    • Personal strengths, interests, and goals

    When available, relevant records from previous treatment providers, schools, or other professionals may also be reviewed.

    Following the evaluation, diagnostic impressions and recommendations will be discussed, and an individualized treatment plan will be developed. Recommendations may include medication management, psychotherapy, care coordination, lifestyle interventions, or other evidence-based supports tailored to your needs.

  • Following the evaluation, most patients are seen for 25-minute medication management follow-up appointments. Longer 45-minute appointments may be scheduled upon request or when clinically indicated to address more complex concerns, provide psychotherapy interventions, or allow for more comprehensive treatment planning.

    I work with children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing a wide range of emotional, behavioral, developmental, and psychiatric concerns. If you are unsure whether Sussex Psychiatry would be a good fit, please feel free to reach out.

  • Psychiatric evaluations are available for school districts as part of the Child Study Team evaluation process. Evaluations include record review, clinical interviews, and a comprehensive written report containing diagnostic impressions and recommendations.

  • Dr. Montgomery is available for educational presentations, training sessions, and speaking engagements for schools, healthcare professionals, parent organizations, and community groups. Topics may be tailored to the needs of the audience and cover a variety of child and adolescent mental health concerns.

  • Sussex Psychiatry is currently an out-of-network practice. Payment is due at the time of service. A superbill can be provided for patients who wish to seek out-of-network reimbursement from their insurance carrier.

    Participation with select insurance plans may become available in the future.
